Nuvo

The following Nuvo models are known to work with the Cortexa

  • Grand Concerto
  • Concerto
  • Essentia
  • Simplese
  • Grand Essentia *(this model is not separately listed in the Cortexa's subsystem setup page - but it will work by selecting the "Grand Concerto" option)

Steps for interfacing a Nuvo product with the Cortexa:

Note: this process assumes that the Nuvo product is already independently functional
  1. Navigate to the Cortexa setup utility by clicking "Settings", then "Setup" from the main user interface page.
  2. On the left-hand side of the page, click the link called "Subsystem Setup".
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and find the entry for "Whole-House Audio".
  4. In the drop-down menu under "COM Port", select the entry for the Com port that the Nuvo will be connected to via serial cable (1-4 available for base-level 7202, 1-8 available for 7202SV)
  5. In the drop-down menu under "Device Type", select the correct Nuvo model. (for Grand Essentia, select "Grand Concerto")
  6. Click the "Advanced" button next to the model entry. The resulting page has two sections:

Zones and Sources

Zones Section

      1. In the "Description" field, enter then name of the room that is setup as zone 1 in the Nuvo. (Ex: Kitchen, MBR, etc.)
      2. In the "Number" field, enter the numeral 1.
      3. Click the "Add" button at the left of the newly entered information.
      4. Repeat this process for each zone in the house, entering a name and number for each entry that corresponds with the zone setup in the Nuvo.

Sources Section

      1. In the "Description" field next to "Source 1", replace "Source 1" with name of the audio source designated as source 1 in the Nuvo (Ex: CD Player, MP3 server, Satellite, etc.)
      2. Leave the "Source Data" drop-down set to "None", unless using the Cortexa audio out jack as a source for the Nuvo.
      3. Click the "Update button at the left of the newly entered information.
      4. Repeat this process for each available source - the number of sources available is dependent on the Nuvo model selected.
  1. Connect a standard male-female 9-pin serial cable to the previously specified Cortexa COM port at one end, and to the serial port on the back of the Nuvo at the other end. (The Nuvo serial port will be labeled "RS-232 - Programming and Serial control")

Testing

To test for full functionality, navigate back to the Cortexa User Interface page, and click on "Audio", then click on "Rooms". A list of all created zones will be displayed. Click on any room, and a Nuvo keypad emulator will appear, allowing control of that zone including Power, Volume, Mute, (all sources), as well as Play/Pause, Next, Previous (controllable sources). To change sources for this zone, click the source name at the left of the page. Test this functionality for all created zones. Lastly, test to make sure that when the physical Nuvo keypad is used to affect a zone, the Cortexa keypad emulator reflects this change.
